Family Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with family. Our first visitor was my dad who flew out from California. My dad is a pilot too and bought a remote control helicopter for one of James' presents. The helo quickly became Daddy's toy! James is also quite the pilot! No surprise at all, of course! We were able to attend Christmas Eve service together and then James got to open one Christmas present. Here's a wonderful picture of my dad, James, and Tobias before the first present was opened. We have a family tradition of 'hiding' a pickle ornament on the tree and the person who finds the pickle gets a dollar. James was so excited to have found the pickle on Christmas morning.Hours after my dad headed back to California we were joined by Tobias' entire family from Kansas. James was spoiled by eight adults for a couple of days he loved every minute of it!A lovely picture of Tobias and his siblings with James. What a good looking bunch. James loved opening up presents, but was so excited by each present that it honestly took days to open everything. He'd open something and then play with it for hours before remembering that there were even more presents waiting for him under the tree.James was remembered by everyone and loved every single gift he received. Thank you!James also received a "computer." He loves his computer. For the past couple of months he'd been using a calculator as a computer - called a 'puter.' Now he has a small computer with a QWERTY keyboard. He's so tech savvy. We were blessed to have a White Christmas. Not exactly the weather we enjoyed in Jacksonville last Christmas, but we made the most of it. James had a lot of fun. What did we do during our White Christmas? Puzzles! Everyone helped complete the puzzle and we had the entire thing finished (all 1000 pieces) while James napped. Not to be outdone, James did a couple of puzzles too. Including this giant super fun, floor puzzle. While Tobias' family was here we took them on a tour of the Naval Academy. It was James' first time touring the Academy grounds. I never thought I'd encourage my child to go through the Academy, but James was really excited about the trip. We'll see - he's definitely tough enough.
James and Tobias inside the Naval Academy chapel. It was a lovely Christmas. Now we'll just have to see where 2011 takes us! Happy New Year.

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
