Family Day 2014

Six years ago today our little miracle became legally part of our family.  We now celebrate this special day with a focus on the entire family.

My little miracles just chillin' together!
This is my life now - I have 3 students.  Eli attends preschool at MIT 2 days a week.  James continues to love his kindergarten class.  Tobias is also enjoying his studies.

For MLK Jr day the kids in James' class wrote their own dreams.  James' dream is "My family are having a picnic."  Guess which one is me?  Love the curls!

Last weekend we tried ice skating for the first time.  Fun way to spend the day but don't expect to see any of us in the 2018 Winter Olympics!

The boys grabbing a bit to eat at the Boston Common, beneath the Learning statue.

James' school had a half day earlier this week.  Since it was a day when Eli was in school, James and I went for a long walk and snuck in a movie.
To celebrate Family Day we went to Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.  It was a great way to spend the day.
James' favorite piece of art was a this large statue.

Checking out some Egyptian antiquities.

Pointing out the hieroglyphics.

Learning about Greek vases.

Looking at the paintings which surprisingly James didn't really get in to.

James really seemed to enjoy the more abstract art.  Here is James explaining this painting of trees and water to Eli.  By the way, I didn't see the trees either.  But according to write up, James was right!

There were a couple of fun activities for the kids.  Here are the boys working together to make a paint with a block print.

The boys also made bird beaks.

Of course we had to check out the Navy stuff at the art museum.  The sheer scale of this painting was awe inspiring.

We finished the day with some homemade pizzas.
Happy Family Day!

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

M-I-C-K-E-Y and a bunch of other fun stuff

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
