Well, here goes our first blog post. We're setting this up in hopes of keeping our family and friendly informed of life as parents.
After going through the entire adoption process (about 6 months) and waiting for about 8 eight months, we've been matched with a birth mother. Since this has been a very exciting week, we'll quickly give a run down.
Monday - October 22, 2007 - Tobias returns home from a brief underway period
Tuesday - October 23, 2007 - Jim, Tobias' dad, finds out he'll need surgery to treat prostate cancer. Rough news, but the cancer was caught early! It was also my birthday.
Wednesday - October 24, 2007, about 3pm - I get an email from our social worker telling me to call her ASAP! It turns out a birth mother has picked us!
Friday - October 25, 2007 - We met the birth mother, and we both feel comfortable with each other.
Basically, right now we're just waiting for our baby to be born. Our birth mother will still need to make her final decision after the baby is born. She seems confident in her decision, and we know she will make the best decision for her and her family. We're hopeful that her decision involved us!
And so now to the exciting part - pictures of the baby room! Hopefully we'll figure out how to make the pictures bigger next time. We've felt so prepared for months, but now that we're so close to becoming parents, we realize we perhaps aren't as prepared as we think! I'm sure that's how all new parents feel!
His full name will be James Douglas. James for Tobias' dad and Douglas was my step-dad's name. We figure maybe J.D.
The infamous airplane shelf. Tobias made that for the baby. I think it turned it so great!
Tobias did the entire room. The room turned out great. It always make me think of that 'These are a few of my favorite things' song. We have airplanes, helicopters, and Superman! All things Tobias loves!
