Goin' to the Chapel!

First off - congratulations to Crystal (Tobias' totally awesome sister) and Kyle! Kyle popped the question yesterday and Crystal, being the smart woman she is, said yes! I spoke with Crystal this morning and she sounds so excited.
The pictures are from Kyle and Crystal's visit down here right after James was born. James is also very excited for Kyle to officially become 'Uncle Kyle!'
How you can follow up news of an engagement 10 years in the making? By showing the world how cute your son is!
James and I have been doing pretty well since Tobias has been gone. Our friends have been great and have offered me rest and adult company too. One of the guys at Tobias' squadron, Matty, was even nice enough to watch James for a couple hours yesterday evening. Thank goodness for good friends!
The pictures are just random ones I've been sending to Tobias while he's been underway. I try to send Tobias a picture every day so he can see how much James has grown.
I love this picture. I think James looks so intellectual holding his book. As a note, the book he's holding is phenomenal. Tobias and I love reading to James, but it's funny which books he enjoys. A friend of ours who has a young baby told us this was a must have - and she was so right, James loves this book!!
Doesn't he look like he's having fun? It's amazing to me how strong he is now.

Just a sweet picture of James while we're preparing for a walk with Bandito. We had a night below 20 this week (our only night this winter)!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love the food and there is no pressure like there is with Christmas. This Thanksgiving weekend has been wonderful. We started off the celebration by ringing the Salvation Army bell on Tuesday afternoon. James was a big hit! Sorry we didn't get pictures of that. James' school hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday that Tobias and I were able to attend. They had all the kids decked out like little pilgrims. It was super cute! My dad came out on Wednesday evening. He hadn't seen James since May, so they had a lot of catching up to do. Chris, a friend of ours who is a ROTC instructor at Villanova , came down for the day too. Chris and James had a great time together - too bad Chris only stayed for dinner on Thursday before heading back up North. James enjoyed his first piece of pumpkin pie on Thursday too. Summer, Summer, Summer Time!

We have enjoyed exploring more of Southern Maryland this past month. We explored a local light house! James and his ol' buddy tried out sailing at the local maritime museum. And James even tried his hand at being a pirate. Arrrr, Matey! But the best part of summer is enjoying time with our friends - fun while shucking some fresh corn. James is learning lots of new songs at his new school. Here is he is singing for your enjoyment while eating some lunch. One of the perks of living near a Naval Base is being able to enjoy a wonderful airshow. This was a special airshow this Labor Day Weekend, celebrating 100 years of Naval Aviation. This was James' first time seeing the Blue Angels fly. He was pretty impressed, but thought they were too noisy! In exciting family news - James is excited to announce that he will soon be a big brother. We are expecting a baby in late January.

James Has Arrived

Welcome to the world James Douglas Walters! He joined us yesterday at 6:16 pm Eastern Daylight Time. He weighed in at 7lb 14 oz and 21.5 inches long! He's long and lean. Tobias says we can call him 'Slim.' Everything with the labor went very well for the birth mother and I was actually in the delivery room for the birth. I also got to cut the umbilical cord. Wow, what an exciting experience. His birth mother did very well and seems to still be comfortable with her adoption plan. Tobias and I arrived at the hospital yesterday about 11pm, so we weren't really there for very long. While we waited we tailgated for a while (we needed some energy), which we thought was kinda funny. We stayed at the hospital until about 1am last night and were back this morning. Things are going so fast and it's such an amazing experience. We are so thankful for everyones thoughts and prayers. He's a very healthy baby - APGAR score of 9.9!
