Sailors belong on ships, and ships belong at sea

Many people are familiar with the saying, Sailors belong on ships, and ships belong at sea. A great saying, unless of course, you're the Sailor! =) So for our friends who don't know what Sailors do at sea (I won't go in to what Sailors do in port!), here are some pictures of Tobias' adventures.
They fish. This is a bull Mahi Mahi one of the guys on Tobias' boat caught while underway.
We're proud of Tobias' fish too, although it's no Mahi Mahi! This is actually a picture of Tobias peacock bass fishing in Panama.
And after they fish, they feast! Here's a fun steel beach picnic the guys enjoyed. When there's time, they golf. This is probably new to some of the old Sailors, but nowadays, Sailors enjoy Wii Golf! This is the skipper of Tobias' boat and a fellow pilot enjoying some golf.Ahh, yes... they sleep! This is Tobias' Air Boss taking a bit of snooze on the flight deck. I said I wouldn't go into what Sailors do in port, but this is G rated! About 20 guys from Tobias' boat volunteered at an orphanage in Panama City. Tobias swore that he tied about 100 pairs of shoes and gave about 50 piggy back rides.

And now that I've created the greatest recruitment tool the Navy could ever ask for, let me go into what Sailors do about 98% of the time... they work!A couple of Tobias' guys doing maintenance on the helo underway. This is Tobias' ship going through the Panama Canal. Tobias is now a proud card carrying member of the Order of the Ditch! They fly.And fly some more. Tobias is flying in all of these pictures. He's dropping off supplies in these pictures, there normally isn't a giant pallet of stuff dragging behind them when they fly.

Tobias is demonstrating HIFR (Helicopter In Flight Refueling). He's basically hovering next to the ship and the line up to the helicopter is giving them fuel. Obviously pretty dangerous, but also pretty cool!Although this makes a pretty picture - try to imagine sailing through this storm! Yikes!

While Tobias has to leave in a couple of days, we're really enjoying having him home!Have a good day at work, Dad. James and Tobias say good bye (for the day) earlier this week.Welcome home Daddy! James welcoming Tobias after he was at work all day.

This morning Tobias was involved in a retirement ceremony for a friend on his boat, so he had to get all dressed up. This picture is a redo of a picture taken (and posted) a couple months ago.James and Tobias goofin' around before Tobias left this morning. Happy times!

Fabulous post! I loved the tutorial on what sailors do at sea (and in port!) - very educational and amusing, plus cool to know what Tobe's doing all this time! And I loved the pictures of Daddy and son... James looked so happy :)

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
