The Fertile Fair

Life simply does not get much better than attending the Fertile Fair in Fertile, MN. James and I really enjoyed our trip to Northern MN where we had a lot of fun with my dad's side of the family. We were in MN for a week around the 4th of July. I spent almost every summer of my life in MN so it was wonderful to bring James.James and Grandpa Mel enjoyed the merry-go-round.
Even though James is only 2 1/2, he's tall enough to ride most of the children's rides. The motorcycles were his favorite!
The bumblebees were also lots of fun.
The fair also had a lot of great 4-H animal exhibits. James enjoyed seeing all the animals, but was most amazed at the many different variety of chickens.

There was also a petting farm where Grandpa Mel and James fed goats and cows and deer.
The best part of the Fertile Fair for anyone older than 15 is the Ladies Aid Stand - where you'll always see someone you know and just about every type of delicious homemade pie is available. Here Grandpa Mel and James share some ice cream in front of the Ladies Aid Stand.
When not at the fair, James enjoyed running around the beautiful yard at Walter and Tootsie's home. The weather was perfect and there were hardly any mosquitoes, which is amazing!
Here is James showing off his fearless athletic side by jumping off the front porch of the Walter's Farm. He's the 5th Generation Walters on this farm.
We also spent some time at the cemeteries which, in Northern MN aren't very creepy. Every visit we visit the cemeteries. This visit we were lucky enough to visit 2 cemeteries, one for each side of my dad's family. Fun times.
Another big trip was to Bemidji, MN which is the home of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. When James saw the Babe statue he said, "Look mommy, big blue cow!"Now we're safe at home in Coronado, enjoying our fun filled days.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love the food and there is no pressure like there is with Christmas. This Thanksgiving weekend has been wonderful. We started off the celebration by ringing the Salvation Army bell on Tuesday afternoon. James was a big hit! Sorry we didn't get pictures of that. James' school hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday that Tobias and I were able to attend. They had all the kids decked out like little pilgrims. It was super cute! My dad came out on Wednesday evening. He hadn't seen James since May, so they had a lot of catching up to do. Chris, a friend of ours who is a ROTC instructor at Villanova , came down for the day too. Chris and James had a great time together - too bad Chris only stayed for dinner on Thursday before heading back up North. James enjoyed his first piece of pumpkin pie on Thursday too. It was obviously a big hit! My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. We usually don...

Summer, Summer, Summer Time!

We have enjoyed exploring more of Southern Maryland this past month. We explored a local light house! James and his ol' buddy tried out sailing at the local maritime museum. And James even tried his hand at being a pirate. Arrrr, Matey! But the best part of summer is enjoying time with our friends - fun while shucking some fresh corn. James is learning lots of new songs at his new school. Here is he is singing for your enjoyment while eating some lunch. One of the perks of living near a Naval Base is being able to enjoy a wonderful airshow. This was a special airshow this Labor Day Weekend, celebrating 100 years of Naval Aviation. This was James' first time seeing the Blue Angels fly. He was pretty impressed, but thought they were too noisy! In exciting family news - James is excited to announce that he will soon be a big brother. We are expecting a baby in late January.

James Has Arrived

Welcome to the world James Douglas Walters! He joined us yesterday at 6:16 pm Eastern Daylight Time. He weighed in at 7lb 14 oz and 21.5 inches long! He's long and lean. Tobias says we can call him 'Slim.' Everything with the labor went very well for the birth mother and I was actually in the delivery room for the birth. I also got to cut the umbilical cord. Wow, what an exciting experience. His birth mother did very well and seems to still be comfortable with her adoption plan. Tobias and I arrived at the hospital yesterday about 11pm, so we weren't really there for very long. While we waited we tailgated for a while (we needed some energy), which we thought was kinda funny. We stayed at the hospital until about 1am last night and were back this morning. Things are going so fast and it's such an amazing experience. We are so thankful for everyones thoughts and prayers. He's a very healthy baby - APGAR score of 9.9! We know you're just wanting to see p...
