The Dark Ages

The time period between New Year and Spring Break at the Naval Academy is called the Dark Ages and now I remember why. The weather here has been cold and dreary, although we haven't had much snow. James obviously doesn't let the weather get him down though!James and his buddy Abby make the most of cold days - staying in and watching movies.

We have had a very busy year so far - complete with trips to CA for me and another trip to MN, which included James. Although the trips were for family health issues and a funeral, it was wonderful seeing family. In CA I was able to see my wonderful sister, Marthaa, and her beautiful family. It was wonderful to see little Gabe who is growing up so fast!James showing off his backpack and bear - he's such a big boy! While James and I were toughing out the winter weather, Tobias was in AZ for training. Tobias really enjoyed the desert and made time to explore.

Tobias came home with some wonderful pictures - what a fun adventure for him. The training he was in AZ for went really well too!James was so happy to have his Daddy back! Here they are enjoying breakfast together.

James sure seems to make friends wherever he goes. Yes...that cactus is really big. Navy life sure lets you see the world!!I hope that life calms down for you soon. Spring will have you really busy....playing outside!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love the food and there is no pressure like there is with Christmas. This Thanksgiving weekend has been wonderful. We started off the celebration by ringing the Salvation Army bell on Tuesday afternoon. James was a big hit! Sorry we didn't get pictures of that. James' school hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday that Tobias and I were able to attend. They had all the kids decked out like little pilgrims. It was super cute! My dad came out on Wednesday evening. He hadn't seen James since May, so they had a lot of catching up to do. Chris, a friend of ours who is a ROTC instructor at Villanova , came down for the day too. Chris and James had a great time together - too bad Chris only stayed for dinner on Thursday before heading back up North. James enjoyed his first piece of pumpkin pie on Thursday too. Summer, Summer, Summer Time!

We have enjoyed exploring more of Southern Maryland this past month. We explored a local light house! James and his ol' buddy tried out sailing at the local maritime museum. And James even tried his hand at being a pirate. Arrrr, Matey! But the best part of summer is enjoying time with our friends - fun while shucking some fresh corn. James is learning lots of new songs at his new school. Here is he is singing for your enjoyment while eating some lunch. One of the perks of living near a Naval Base is being able to enjoy a wonderful airshow. This was a special airshow this Labor Day Weekend, celebrating 100 years of Naval Aviation. This was James' first time seeing the Blue Angels fly. He was pretty impressed, but thought they were too noisy! In exciting family news - James is excited to announce that he will soon be a big brother. We are expecting a baby in late January.

James Has Arrived

Welcome to the world James Douglas Walters! He joined us yesterday at 6:16 pm Eastern Daylight Time. He weighed in at 7lb 14 oz and 21.5 inches long! He's long and lean. Tobias says we can call him 'Slim.' Everything with the labor went very well for the birth mother and I was actually in the delivery room for the birth. I also got to cut the umbilical cord. Wow, what an exciting experience. His birth mother did very well and seems to still be comfortable with her adoption plan. Tobias and I arrived at the hospital yesterday about 11pm, so we weren't really there for very long. While we waited we tailgated for a while (we needed some energy), which we thought was kinda funny. We stayed at the hospital until about 1am last night and were back this morning. Things are going so fast and it's such an amazing experience. We are so thankful for everyones thoughts and prayers. He's a very healthy baby - APGAR score of 9.9!
