Summer Travels

We have enjoyed a wonderful summer full of traveling! Here is James showing how a pro gets his naps even when on an airplane! We flew to Missouri and stayed with my mom for a few days before driving her car (thanks Mom) up to Minnesota. We were in Minnesota for a week before heading back to Missouri. We were gone for about 2 weeks! Love vacation time, and since James is such a great traveler it makes it so much more fun. Life just doesn't get much better than the Polk County Fair in Fertile, MN!

There are lots of rides, including this roller coaster, and lots of cousins to ride the rides with! And ponies too! Ride 'em cowboy! James' favorite ride this year with the giant slide - woohoo!

Grandpa Mel met us in MN and he and James had a great time together. In addition to the fair, we also spent lots of time at the Walters' family farm. James was able to use the old pump that still stands where my dad attended school in the days before everywhere had indoor plumbing.

James loved the tractors on the farm.

He especially loved the opportunity to help drive the tractor! After lots of fun in MN, it was time to head back to JillMama's house where we had even more fun. Here are JillMama and James ready to go save the day as firemen at a local children's museum.

This picture makes me laugh. When I was growing up we weren't even allowed to sit on this white couch and now James is sitting there eating a peach on it! Has my mom become a softie?!

We didn't get a chance to play on the Mighty Mississippi while visiting JillMama since the water was so high, but James still got a chance to fish! James also had the opportunity to see how high he can jump while visiting JillMama. Apparently James isn't afraid of heights. Perhaps he will become a pilot someday like his daddy. There were lots of cousins at JillMama's house so that meant lots of good food. James took advantage of the situation and became the official taste tester. Yummy! We celebrated the 4th of July with JillMama and Pawpaw. James even got to do some fireworks - under close supervision of course.

Now some of you may notice that Tobias isn't in any of our pictures, that's because the Navy decided they could use Tobias' skill and talents for 6 weeks out at sea. So instead of traveling the midwest with us, he had to work. But don't feel too sorry for Tobias...

Here he is at the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai, UAE. Meaning he has visited both Atlantis hotels in the world now!

And here he is sightseeing in the Seychelles. Yes, the same island where the Prince and Princess just honeymooned. And here he is using his spelunking skills at Mt. Etna in Sicily.
Oh yeah, and apparently they did a little work too!It was a wonderful time of traveling and seeing family and working (for Tobias). Now we're happy to be home with all our fun toys!

A quick garden update. James loves helping Daddy in the garden and we have enjoyed many good meals with the fresh vegtables we have grown. Just look at that smile!

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

M-I-C-K-E-Y and a bunch of other fun stuff

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
