August Update

I suppose the best part of summer time is the time people make to spend with their friends and family and the out door activities.  The Walters Family is enjoying just about every minute of this summer!
A special visit from our dear friend and James' godfather, Andy.
My guys and Andy had a great visit.
Tobias and Andy met in boot camp in IL in 1996.  Still a couple of good looking guys 17 years later!
James is certainly growing up!  He will start kindergarten on August 28th!  We had his school physical and he's 57 pounds (95th percentile for weight) and 57 inches - that's 4 ft 9 inches (99th percentile for height)!  We couldn't be more proud of our big boy!
In the beginning... Tobias created a handle for the back of James' bike to help James balance.
In a couple of days James figured it out!
And with a new (bigger) bike he is loves to cruise the neighborhood on just 2 wheels!
James isn't much for drawing or art, but he did this self portrait at school and I love it.  He drew himself running!  So precious!
Perhaps a future in computer programming for this little one.  He loves to play with anything that has buttons!  But can navigate a touch screen just fine too!
Out at the new ice cream place with some friends - a great way to spend a summer evening!
James and his buddy at our neighborhood pool.
These continue to be great friends - love watching Abby and James hang out!
Of course summer time means traveling - good thing my boys travel so well together.  James moved his booster seat over to be close to Elias on this long car ride.

Pictures from the Polk County Fair!  We all enjoyed indulging in some fair food!
James loved riding the rides with his dad!

Elias is our little animal lover!
Every year James looks forward to pony rides!

On the Walters' family farm in Northern MN with my dad.
My mom and dad were both in MN and the boys loved the attention from having both grandparents around!

James and my cousin, Erin, playing catch.  Erin played Division 1 softball so she had some great tips for James and they had so much fun together.
Holy Zucchini!  We were gone for less than a week and we came home to these zucchini in our garden.  As James said, "we are making zucchini everything."  Yep, pretty much!

Brotherly love!  Both my boys love to read!  In this picture they are snuggling and each "reading" their own book.

A little bit of fun at the local park.

Elias thinks he is as big as his big brother and tries to follow James' lead on everything!
And in other exciting news - we are moving to Boston and Tobias is getting out the Navy!
Tobias was accepted to MIT's System's Design and Management program and will start in January 2014.
The entire family is excited.  We will move up to the Boston area in October.  After Tobias finishes up at MIT we aren't sure where we'll go.  We are so excited for this new opportunity and proud of Tobias as he moves forward in a civilian job.

1st of all congratulations on your opportunity with MIT. If that doesn't work out he can always have a farmers market with the green thumb he has. ha ha. It's also going to be exciting for James to start kindergarten. He's really growing up fast. Riding a bike by himself...They are both such good looking boys and sure had a wonderful summer. I also love James' self portrait!

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

M-I-C-K-E-Y and a bunch of other fun stuff

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
