Winter wonderland

Happy New Year!  2014 has been a busy year so far, but thing are going really well.
We started off 2014 with a traditional New Year's dinner of cornbread (gold), collard greens (dollars), black eyed peas (luck), and fried chicken (because it tastes good).
We also made special New Years cookies, basically a donut that the boys really enjoy.  It's a special tradition we all look forward to.
There has been a lot of snow here in Boston and some chilly days.  We try to be creative with ways to enjoy our inside time though.

TV time - always fun!
Why share when each kid can use a different tablet?!

Of course we don't always stay inside - we just have to bundle up warmly for outside time.
The boys are all ready to go sledding!  Fun times.
Playing with toys is fun too!
Elias enjoys coloring too.
Some days we can even play at the park.
Tobias started at MIT in early January.  He has been really busy, but is really enjoying his program.
Handsome guy on his first day of school at MIT.
What does an MIT grad student do?  Well, they build Lego robots.  James offered to help!
Tobias' first time wearing a bow tie and it's MIT colors too.  Didn't take MIT long to geek him out!  Haha!
This good looking crew is a picture of Tobias' classmates at MIT. He is a fellow in MIT's Systems Design and Management Program.
One of the challenges of living in a city is transportation.  We do have a car here, but driving isn't convenient.
So we created a family bike.  James stands on motorcycle pegs and Elias has his bike seat.  It's a good workout for me and both boys really enjoy it.

James is all ready to ride his bike too.  Once the weather warms up and we become more comfortable perhaps he will be able to ride independently more often.
We also bought a backpack for days when there is to much snow for the bike or stroller.
And some days we just walk - but isn't it pretty?
James just completed his first indoor track season.  He competed in 2 track meets and did really well at both.  He still loves to run and we hope to have him participate in the outdoor season that starts next month.

Seeing our boy's name on the big screen!
That blur is James!
Showing off his ribbons.
He looks good in front of the Harvard sign, doesn't he?!
For President's Day we went to the JFK Presidential Library in Boston. It was unbelievably boring, but I'm glad we went.
Happy guys with great smiles.

Sooo proud of James with his track! Love his ribbons. You sure are creative in getting around town. Glad you all are having fun even with the bad weather. You certainly make the best of it wherever you go! Congratulations again to Tobias!

Fast as the Flash

The boys have a need for speed!  Recently James and Eli built Pine Wood derby cars to compete in the James' Boy Scout troop. In the beginning... We did some scholarly research to prepare.  Thank you YouTube! My step-dad, AKA Pawpaw was a big help and taught James to use power tools. Sanding is always fun! James designed and built his car with minimal assistance. Spray paint is always fun. Added weights to make it as heavy as the rules allowed. The finished products! The race was a lot of fun! James didn't win but he worked really hard and was really proud of his car. While his derby car wasn't the fastest, James was the fastest in a recent track race.  My future Olympic sprinter!   Zoom zoom zoom

M-I-C-K-E-Y and a bunch of other fun stuff

Everyone grab their Mickey Ears!  We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World.  We flew down to FL from MA, my sister and her beautiful family and my aunt and cousin all flew from CA, and my mom traveled from MO!   All 11 of us stayed in one beautiful villa right on the Walt Disney property and had a great time. We celebrated JillMama's 60th birthday in style.   We also celebrated my nephew's 2nd birthday while in WDW! Everyone had a great time! We celebrated Halloween a little early at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party!   Can you tell we're the Avengers!?!  Eli was the Incredible Hulk, Tobias was Tony Stark (AKA Iron Man), James was Captain America, and I was Black Widow. By the end of the night, the Incredible Hulk was done, but still really cute! Gabe (age 4) and James got along great! Elias and Gavin (also 2) were fast friends too. Fun times on a ride with my little man! Rrrr Matey!  ...

Winter in Boston

Happy February!  I can't believe I haven't updated since November when we've had such an exciting couple of months!   Our Lego family for Christmas 2014 designed by James!  There are a lot of firsts and developmental milestones in first grade!  James finished his first chapter book over the Christmas break!  So proud of him - he is reading above grade level. James also remains very active with track and is working with his gym teacher to start a running club at his elementary school! This was a fun assignment for the entire family.  Once he completed the assignment, James presented it to his class. We did family Christmas pictures this year with a great photographer.  We met at Minute Man National Park - where Paul Revere was captured- and had fun taking pictures together.  I worked the night before and it was cold out, but the pictures still turned out great! The 2014 Walters Family Christmas picture! My two cuti...
